The Cheekbrush Test

All we require for a carrier test is a sample of your DNA. We can obtain this from a cheekbrush test, which is simple, quick and painless. All that is involved is wiping the brush (contained in our screening packs) against the inside of both your cheeks for about 10 seconds each side.

We then test your sample in our laboratory to find out if you carry any of the alterations in the CFTR gene that we test for. If an individual is found to have one copy of the altered gene, they are a carrier of cystic fibrosis.

Note that the collected samples will be tested in our own laboratory and only for the common alterations in the CFTR gene. Results will be kept completely confidential and will be sent to the requesting doctor approximately one week after the sample arrives in our laboratory.

What do the results mean?
